Appointing the right Contractor or Supplier, wherever they feature in the supply chain, is vital to a project’s success. The Project Owner should evaluate prospective Contractors and Suppliers to understand and be confident in their ability to complete their works.
Considerations include:
- Is the Contractor or Supplier legally established and entitled to carry out such works?• Does the Contractor or Supplier have sufficient skills and resources to undertake the works?
- Does the Contractor or Supplier have a track-record in undertaking works similar to those required by the Project Owner?
- Does the Contractor or Supplier have the capacity to undertake the works?
- Does the Contractor or Supplier have QA/QC and Health & Safety policies in place?
- Is the Contractor or Supplier financially stable, credit-worthy and able to appoint the necessary Suppliers and Sub-Contractors?
- Does the Contractor or Supplier have experience with using the proposed form of contract and understand their obligations?
- Does the Contractor have the appropriate types and levels of insurance?
- Does the Contractor have any references from previous projects?
